Four chapters of Klevan history
First written mention
Klevan appears in records from 1458 as a holding of the Czartoryski family. The settlement developed near an earlier fortified site above the Stubla River.
Czartoryski Castle
The stone castle was founded in the second half of the 15th century. Its towers, defensive walls and bridge recall Klevan’s past as a fortified centre of Volhynia.
A Jesuit college in the castle
Parts of the castle were assigned to the Jesuits, who established a school there. Over the following centuries the complex served several different purposes.
The Tunnel of Love
Trees growing along a railway line formed the leafy corridor known as the Tunnel of Love. It is now one of the best-known natural attractions near Klevan.
