Local history and heritage
Teterivka: an old name, a village school and a local chronicle
When Albinivka became Teterivka
The village near Zhytomyr was once called Albinivka and was renamed Teterivka in 1946. Some local accounts give 1788 as its founding year, although this is best understood as a commonly cited date rather than a fully established fact.
How the first school opened
According to the local lyceum, Teterivka’s school began operating in 1913 through the efforts of Vasyl Kandyba and Stepan Rudnytskyi. Lessons were initially held in villagers’ homes. A purpose-built school was completed in 1939.
A book written about the village
Writer Mariia Zinovchuk published Ruslo u Skeliakh, a chronicle of the Teterivka community. It brings together stories of village life, including recollections of war and political repression.
The river that shapes the landscape
Teterivka lies a short distance from Zhytomyr, close to the Teteriv River. The N-03 road passes through, and the Vidsichne reservoir is nearby. These familiar landmarks help explain the village’s setting and connection to the city.
