Local history and heritage
Markova Volytsia: an older name and its link to Sokilcha
Why the name Mala Volytsia appears
A local history account mentions Mala Volytsia, meaning “Little Volytsia”, as another name for what is now Markova Volytsia. The name helped distinguish this village from other settlements called Volytsia.
Close ties with Sokilcha
Markova Volytsia was administered through the Sokilcha village council. Some of the older local administrative record therefore appears under Sokilcha rather than Markova Volytsia itself.
Joining the Popilnia community
The Sokilcha council, including Markova Volytsia, became part of the wider Popilnia community in 2016. Markova Volytsia remains a distinct village.
Markova Volytsia in official records
An encyclopaedic overview lists the Markova Volytsia village council among the district’s local councils in 1946.
