Local history and heritage
Khodorkiv: a former town with a Hetmanate connection
The earliest written record
Khodorkiv appears in historical documents dating back to 1471. It was once a small town with trade, churches and a local civic life. Some buildings and traces of older settlements still reveal aspects of its long past.
Birthplace of Ivan Samoilovych
Khodorkiv is associated with Ivan Samoilovych, who later became Hetman of Left-Bank Ukraine. Historical and local heritage accounts identify the village as his birthplace and say he was born into a priest’s family.
Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God
The Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God, built in 1870, is among the village’s best-known heritage buildings. Archaeological sites in the surrounding area include ancient mounds and remnants of fortifications.
A village with a town’s history
Khodorkiv is now part of the Popilnia community. Its earlier status as a town and its links to Cossack-era history remain important to local identity and make the village worth reading about beyond its modern administrative status.
