Andrushky stands on the Pavolochka River near Popilnia. It is a separate village in Zhytomyr district, not the similarly named town of Andrushivka. Today it is the administrative centre of the Andrushky community.
The village has a history stretching back centuries, from Cossack-era routes and uprisings to a nineteenth-century church and sugar factory. Its earliest known written record dates to 1683.

The history of Andrushky, from the Cossack era to today
Early records and the village name
The earliest known written reference to Andrushky dates to 1683. One explanation links the name to Andrushchuk, a Cossack company commander. This remains a proposed origin rather than a proven etymology.
The Hetman Road and local uprisings
The Hetman Road passed through the village, linking Bila Tserkva, Skvyra, Pavoloch and Berdychiv. Local residents took part in the 1702–1704 uprising led by Semen Palii. Haidamak detachments were active in the area in 1768.
The Ascension Church and the first school
A wooden church once stood in the village. Between 1850 and 1859, a stone Church of the Ascension was built on its site and still survives. A school opened in 1859.
The sugar factory
A sugar factory was founded in Andrushky in 1860 and expanded over the following decades. At the start of the twentieth century, watermills and windmills also operated here. Sugar beet growing and processing shaped the local economy for generations.
Famine, war and occupation
Residents of Andrushky suffered through the Holodomor famine of 1932-1933 and Stalinist repression. German forces occupied the village from 10 July 1941 until 27 December 1943.
Andrushky as a community centre
Andrushky became the centre of a newly established territorial community in 2016. The community later expanded. An encyclopaedic source records 1,574 village residents in January 2024.
