Kharliivka: over four centuries of history

Kharliivka lies near the Kamianka River. Regional historical accounts drawing on a 1973 encyclopaedic volume describe the village as known since 1605. Agriculture, including grain and sugar beet cultivation, shaped the local economy.

One of the darkest chapters in its history was the Holodomor of 1932–1933. Ukraine’s National Holodomor-Genocide Museum reports that the names of 248 residents who died of starvation have been established from records and witness accounts. A memorial marks the site of a mass burial.
